Hi,

df3_one_variable is the random effects cousin of df1_one_variable,
a fairly new and undocumented data type that is meant
for calculations with one input variable (and one output).

df1_one_variable is used in the new lgam() function.
which provides the only example at present.

Nomenclature:

df3: the RE stuff needs 3rd order derivatives.
_one_variable: calculations done on one input variable.
