[ADMB Users] profiling glitch: starting from MLE gives bad profile output

Does anyone have any insight into the following problem?

deltavar_prof.tpl
deltavar_prof.dat
deltavar_prof1.pin
deltavar_prof2.pin
The first PIN file represents values that are exactly at the MLE.
The second PIN file represents reasonable starting points that are not
at the MLE.
Compile deltavar_prof (I'm running the latest SVN version of ADMB, I
think) with profiling. Copy each PIN file in turn to deltavar_prof.pin
and run:
./deltavar_prof -lprof
Both cases run, but in the first case the profile output (in
prof_rho.plt) appears mangled: it's only 10 characters long:
-rw-r--r-- 1 bolker dialout 10 2012-12-07 11:35 prof_rho.plt
In the second case it's 4900 characters long:
-rw-r--r-- 1 bolker dialout 4900 2012-12-07 11:35 prof_rho.plt
As a more minor point: does anyone happen to know why ADMB returns
status 1 rather than status 0, even in the better-behaving of these two
cases? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
