The precompiled headers did not improve the speed however. I think that 
one would have to edit
the files so that exactly the same header was included every time. Then 
it might improve
performance.   However if one's time is worth anything just buy a cheap 
multi-core machine
and use the -j option in make (and turn down or turn off optimization).
