I've been trying (without success) to compile ADMB (10.x) from
source on a machine running x86_64 RHEL (which, as many or
you might know, uses gcc 4.1.2). I'm hoping the solution
isn't as simple as 'you have to have gcc 4.4.x to compile ADMB
-- if so, then this lets out RHEL, CentOS, and Scientific
Linux, all of whom stay far from the bleeding edge and use
4.1.x).

So, here is what I've tried -- followed the basic instructions
in the README file -- downloaded latest admb-10.0.zip.
Extracted, then (from bash shell) run ./configure
BUILD_64BIT=yes

While the screen dump didn't indicate any problems, looking
deeper into the configure.log showed multiple 'issues'. First,
picks up gcc fine
