In the meantime, just looking at this (don't have this version myself)

cd/examples/admb/simple; admb.bat simple
The system cannot get the path specified.
make: *** [simple] Error 1

In

    cd/examples/admb/simple; admb.bat simple

since clearly the examples are not in a top directory there must be something like
an environment string  say

    cd %ADMB_HOME%/examples/admb/simple;

or whatever. Whatever it is why not check to see that it is not empty and if it is then
print out a reasonable message instead of just letting the user get pissed off.
