[ADMB Users] Do you use Borlands compiler? we are considering dropping it.

I have found that when compiling Stock Synthesis, especially with Microsoft
compilers it took more than 20 minutes. But, this was mostly due to
optimization. Therefore, when developing SS, we compile without
optimization (safe-mode) which takes a minute or two at most, then for a
release version, we turn on optimization.  I haven't formally compared
compilation times between Borland and Microsoft, but safe-mode may be a
useful option when developing models.

The Microsoft compilers are also free, including 32-bit and 64-bit.  I am
not sure about a conflict with rtools, but if I remember correctly, that
may be an issue with emacs instead of the compiler.
