I will take responsibility for your first point:

The fix has allready been submitted via Johnoel (Commited in revision 349.),
and is part of the new release.

However, from looking at f1b2vc1.cpp I suspect that the "mirrored version"
of the function needs an update as well. I will check up this.

However, Dave's statement "The reason for these stupid errors is that every once
and a while the  compiler police for the various c++ compilers make
changes that break huge amount of old code so one has to fix it all at
one go and these sorts of errors  creep in." made me slightly worried.
I think we need to add to buildbot a large tpl which calls
all avaialble functions. We need to think about how such a tpl-file
can be generated.

Your point 2 is beyond my capasity at the moment. Bolker can do
it elementwise.
